850 running on 4 cyl?
95 850 NA, 200k miles, automatic. have owned it almost a year. Timing belt at 188. this is the only 850 I've ever driven, starts well, idles fine, runs well, seems a little doggy sometimes unless I really push it down and make it drop down a gear. No engine or Abs etc lights on, no fault codes. If this was running on 4 cylinders would the idle be rough? would I have a fault code? Still havent done a compression check. Dont really know what kind of power it is supposed to have. Thanks! Dave
Yes it would toss a code and idle rough. It should be a little spunky to be NA, it does have a high compression motor.
I'd give it a tune up. OEM plugs, new wires if they are older than 5 years (date stamped on the wires, week/year), change rotor and cap if the wires are due, fuel filter, and air filter. Last but not least, clean the flame trap if it's due and the PCV is it's plugged.

My NA 850 (240K, owned it since 196K) has little power in the low end of the RPM range. You have to wring it out all the way to 6K get 170 HP.
My unmodified turbo has all the missing low-end power, but feels surprisingly similar from 4k-redline.

Rspi- thanks for the note. well I did the pcv (I think you've heard my woes about that one- still have dipstick smoke) and air filter, dist cap. havent done wires (plugs look pretty nice) havent done fuel filter. It starts every morning, and has been very reliable.
Did read a thing about a stuck intake air thermostat causing it to take in only heated exhaust air, not taking in cool air after warmed up. Gonna check that out soon, maybe today. When I push the pedal down, it accelerates pretty strong. I didnt really think we were running on 4 clys. Probably just acts like it has 200K miles- Oh yeah it does have 200K miles. Dave

Well, these cars are not suppose to feel slow. If your spark plug gap is off you will have preformance issues. Also, hp is preformed in a range. At 2000 rpm's your car may produce 110 hp and will not produce the full 165 hp till it gets up to 5400 rpm's.
