850 security system lock out
Hello everyone I need some help with my 96 850. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Yesterday I put new spark plugs and cap and rotor in. I had to remove my battery. After I hooked everything back up I opened the drivers side door and the four ways went off and I was unable to start the car. I disconnected a terminal and hooked it back up which stopped the lights from blinking but then I opened the drivers door with the same result. I figured it was the security system so I called the local dealership and they said to have it towed to them. They don't understand why it is doing this but they said they could fix it for about $100. They said something with the key, needs to be reprogrammed. I would think there is some problem with the security system itself for it to do this with just disconnecting the batter and hooking it back up. I really don't want to take it to the dealership because they usually rip you off. Is there anything that I can do to fix this myself??

Anytime you trip the alarm, the first thing you should do is lock and unlock the car with the key. That usually clears it right up.
Glad you didn't do the whole tow and stealer thing. You saved $200.

This is a great forum! I like to do thing on my own and you guys have helped me to figure things out and save money. I hope to be able to help out more with those who need info. I am new to volvos and still learning.
I'm sure they did. The appointment was today for the car. I'm going to call them up soon to cancel and tell them what was wrong and who helped me. Hopefully they realize how big of fools they look like or that they just got caught in their scam.
