850 T5 2.3L starting problems
Hi,
I have a 850 T-5 wagon with a B5234FT motor and have been having issues with starting sometimes. First time was a couple months ago i parked it and about halve a hour later jumped in it and it would not start, checked all the fuses, moved a few wires and all were connected and it started after about 10 mins of head scratching.
It did it one more time where the same thing happened and also got it going again but yesterday it took a lot longer and also investigated the fuel pump fuse (took out had a closer look at the contacts etc and put it back in still would not start. when i turned the key on heard the fuel injection system going in to life like normal.
Is it common for the petrol pump relay to need replacement like the older 740 volvo´s? the relay is from 1994 so is rather old.
is there anybody else with the same symptom´s and have solved the problem or has any tips on what to start with so i dont replace a lot of parts and spend a large amount of money to find its a relay thats cheap...
Thanks

Hey Volvo Owner:
Yes it is common for this to happen to older cars. You can do a forum search and find several things that people have to check to find the problem. It will have to be trouble shot. Sorry but old cars are real fun with these types of problems.

I am having similar problems with my 95 850 turbo but the car will start after 5-10 minutes of sitting. So this is likely a fuel pump or related problem? Should I try replacing the filer and relay first then if need do the fuel pump
cheers for the feedback.
I have now changed the petrol pump relay and will most likely go for the fuel filter next and then will go and get it plugged in and see if there is any error codes during felsökning (cant remember the english word been in sweden to long....)
will post when i solve it so others that might have the problem know what to look for
