Default 850 tr5 manual? need some input

im fairly new to cars in general, so i was hoping to get some input.

I got my eye's on a 850 tr5, but apparently they never made this with a manual. so im thinking about picking one up and dropping a manual in to it. I'm assuming this can be done (correct me if im wrong), im willing to put in the hours to learn how to do this.

so my question is this a good idea? is there a reason they never made this car with a manual?

do you know of anyone who has done this?

thanks

There's a manual swap walkthrough in the stickies on top of the page. I would start there. Spend an hour or so going through some threads. You will learn a great deal about the 850 in general. Good luck!

How mechanically inclined are you? You're removing axles, center console, brake pedal, etc, splicing wires. If your new to cars, I would either do A LOT of reading and then maybe attempt it, or have someone help you. Definitely not a beginner operation.

honestly, come to canada, we have turbo manuals here, (one for sale now) take the drive, then all you have to worry about is customs, and getting it to pass inspection for plates...
lets say you pay 2500$ for the car + 1000$ for the swap,

or you pick up the car for 2500$ here+ 500 (or less) to get it to pass inspection.. and no need to do swap...

He many not be even close to Canada though. And does yours have a functioning OBDII port? I know the OBDII was mostly a US thing, which you need in order to pass emissions here. A lot of the non-US cars have the OBDII port but is missing a pin that allows an OBDII reader to read codes from it.

T5-R. Yes, a manual swap will be the same on any 850 (ignoring 93s). You just have to make sure you get the correct manual swap kit. 94/95 and 96/97.
