850 transmission woes
I came home from work yesterday and stopped briefly to pick up my gf's kid from the school bus stop and when i stopped i hear a strange noise from the engine bay, i then tried to accelerate and the tranny felt like it was slipping then felt like it was in 3rd gear felt like it dropped back into 1st then back too from there on out. Now it will not reverse at all. even in neutral i cannot push it back. i have check the brakes all are non grabbing and release. now i jack it off the ground and put on stands i put it into drive the wheels spin then stop for a sec spin then stop. also i put it into L does nothing.... gear lever is moving on the transmission when selecting gears. Reverse light does come on when gear lever is in park. Any other ideas?
If you can spin the rear tires the parking brakes are not stuck.
If the drive shafts are still all the way in (sometimes the drivers side pops out) it should move.
You have 2 likely problems:
1. A CV axle has broken. Were they worn with split boots?
2. A torque converter has gone bad.

I'm fairly sure the drive shafts are all the way in as i turn one side the other side spins the opposite direction. Sometimes when i spin the wheels i can hear kind of clunk comin from the tranny....how can i tell if the TQ is bad? Do these fail randomly?
"Reverse light does come on when gear lever is in park"
If that is happening the PNP switch isn't adjusted correctly or it's broken internally. OR, something broke inside the transmission and the shaft that engauges the PNP switch is in the wrong position.
