94 850 Purge Valve Location?
Car is stalling out after filling the tank. Goes away after about 4-5 gallons is burned off. I have a spare parts car so I was gonna switch out the purge valve. I cannot find it anywhere. It is not located on the radiator like the others. Have a friend that has a 97 and we easily located it. Does anyone have any idea where this can be found? Thanks

Found this in my 850 file. Click on the link i think this is an early 850. (If so, the credit goes to whomever car this is, that took it the pic.) It's not one of mine. If it's not it, all I can suggest is following the Vacuum line from the charcoal canister. But hop this is what you need. Good Luck,

Hey your post got me thinking. Is your car throwing a code for the purge valve? Because I'v seen something almost exactly like this before. (only it wasn't on a Volvo) About 10 years ago or so, my girl friend at the time had this piece of **** chevy. Anyway, her car would do the same thing. It was either that, or it did it when it got below 1/4 tank. Sorry, can't remember which. Anyway, after a week of trying every thing one could imagine, I finally pulled the tank. (No trunk access,) Low and behold, it was a filthy sock filter. Now what always baffled me, was her car only had those symptoms depending on the amount of fuel, in the tank. Otherwise it was fine. So somewhere to look if you find yourself stumped. (i.e. the pump screen/filter inside the tank) A few years later, I also saw a car that would take forever to start in the middle of summer. (And only in the middle of Summer) Instantly, I had Nam-like flashbacks. (Once again, no trunk access) Luckily, replacing the inline filter cured that I'll. The moral of the story? Most people overlook the fuel filters as being a cause. Don't! They are cheap and easy (in most cases) And thats why audi fuel pumps are ****. Their filter screen is integrated in to the pump.

Hey Clint. something doesn't seem right. Your car should have a purge valve. Here is what mine looks like on my '97 (In comparison to the original pic I posted)

See the difference. (It's not encased) Did you try following the line from the canister? It should be between it and the manifold.

About the only thing that can cause it is the EGR valve itself. It might be stuck open or there might be something keeping it from closing when it's supposed to close. You can try taking it off and cleaning it and the passage it sits on out to see if that might cure it. Carbon does build up in them.

Figured out this is an early enough 94 it does not have the purge valve. Still having performance issues. Changed out 02 sensor...no change. I'm going to take off the egr valve today and clean it up and while I'm at it clean up all the pcv system as well. I will report back. It's running so bad after a fill up now you can barely pull out of the gas station....
