You probably connected something incorrectly. What's the chance of the MAF going bad right after you change the intercooler and vacuum lines?

Nope. This problem has been going on for some time and I always replace lines one at a time, plus I double checked with the diagram. Do you think it's the MAF?
Thanks,
Wes

actually, I should mention that I have changed the vacuum lines and intercooler hoses, but have NOT changed out the intercooler. Could I have holes in it? Do they ever go bad? I sprayed starting fluid on it (i think) and nothing happened.
Thanks again,
Wes

Thanks Tech. yeah that wasn't the case. I dropped it off at a shop before I headed up to Maine. I think he's going to call me on mon or tues and let me know what he finds. I'll post when I hear.

Well, I just got back from my month long vacation and back to a car I should've sold thousands of dollars ago.I hatevacation hangover.Reality blows.Anyway, the mechanic says that I don't have any boost and the turbocharger needs a rebuild. Does this make sense? Would the car act fine and then misfire under load if the turbo was not functioning? What was wrong with your car, Tech?
Thanks,
Wes

On the 15G turbos the waste gate flap walks up and boost is lost. You might want to check that on yours to.

I know it's been a long time but I finally fixed all of my problems last week, I've been out of state a lot lately and haven't had a lot of free time. I found a rebuilt turbo for $450 and since mine had more miles than I could count I decided to just replace it. I got a $200 back for my old turbo and another one I had laying around, so $250 was a steal for a rebuilt turbo. After I installed it I had boost and no vacuum leak and it was cranking up a lot of air, but I was still experiencing some hesitation. So, I assumed it was a fuel issue and sure enough I was only getting 26 psi at the rail. I made the mistake of putting a cheap replacement fuel pump in when mine died six months ago. After reading about all of the people who had the same problem I bought a OEM Bosch and no more hesitation. Now my car is kicking some butt again and I'm back up to 26 mpg. I was getting 17 with the bad turbo and pump!! Anyway, the next project is a steering rack, because mine leaks aquart a month. Where could i find a rebuild kit for my rack, becausea new one is $600 and a rebuilt one is $250. I'm fine paying a couple bucks a month for fluid, but I hate the mess I'm making on the driveway. Any suggestions?

Sounds like the old turbo was fine since you mentioned that the boost was ok when you floored the throttle.

These fuel pumps really seem to die a lot. I guess its important to always have a reasonable amount of fuel in the tank so the pump is correctly refrigerated.

Maybe you didn't read all of the posts, but I mentioned that I did not have any boost on my turbo which is why I pulled it. The turbine was locked up and the wastegate actuator spring was broken, which is why I replaced the turbo. The fuel pump was manufactured to fit multiple applications, hence the lower pressure. I've always kept my tank more than a quarter full, I don't think that has anything to do with it.

Sorry, I misunderstood one of your previous posts.

Glad to read that the car is back to normal now.
