You might have 2 issues. The headlight switch might be one of them. The other might be a bad hazard switch.

Tech is far superior in diagnosing these things than I, but when my 850 did what your talking about, I pulled the key back about a centimeter after starting the car, it seems the spring in my ignition switch isn't as strong as it should be, and doesn't pull the key back far enough to be in the III position, queuing the headlights and blinkers to work (also my instrument panel lights wont come on without pulling the key back).

I moved the key back. It was the spring and the lights, blinkers are on.

That is usually the electrical part of the ignition switch being bad.
That also usually keeps the SRS and ABS lights on on the dash.

Default Thank you for your advice, its been really helpful.

Oh my heck that would tell me why my ABS light is on. I was going this morning to get a brakes quote, thinking I needed new ones. I should get a new ignition switch instead.

If you move the key back and the lights work and the ABS light goes off then you know it is the ignition switch.

The ABS light went off. It's the ignition switch. Is it best to go to the Volvo dealer for repair of this?

You should be able to swap it out your self.
There is 4 screws holding the covers around the steering wheel. 2 torxes 25 and 2 torxes 15 screws. After the covers are off you should see the electrical part of the switch on the back side of the lock assembly. There should be 2 screws holding it in after you remove the plug. Then you can install the new one.

You have been very helpful, thank you.

Now I only have to replace missing fuel door. I have been to local salvage yards but nothing found. My Volvo is the cranberry color. Ebay is null. Any idea where to find the part cheep?

If it was like 2 years ago I would have had one.
Your welcome.
