I just bought another 95 850 with a blown engine. non turbo, Replaced the engine, while it was out, drained & refilled the auto trans. The new engine fired right up and runs smooth. Now I notice the tracs light is always on, and no speedometer. After driving a few hundred feet, the arrow starts flashing, then the CEL comes on. OBDII says "vehicle speed sensor A" had one lying around, put it in, and same problem. could they both be bad, or what else could be causing the problem? I also tried swapping the 2 computers under the hood by the right fender with the ones from my other 95 850 GLT, no difference, same problems! Any and all suggestions will be GREATLY APPRECIATED!

I've now replaced both speed sensors, the electrical part of the ignition switch, and checked the connections on the cluster! Still having the same problems! Tomorrow I'm going to try swapping the selector switch on the transmission to see if that makes any difference! What else could it be?

VERY good point! You must clear the codes to see if your repairs changed anything. If you cleared the codes, I would start looking for broken/pinched/shorted wiring.

 

Yes, the codes were cleared after each repair! Hmmm...that is one possibility I hadn't thought of! It is possible that when I reinstalled the engine / transmission, I could have pinched a wire! THANKS for bringing that to my attention! I'll check it out from underneath, today!

Can anyone tell me what would be a good device to buy to read the codes for my home repair? That way I don't need to be a pest to my shop when I like to do most of my work.
