RE: 96 850 Non turbo - Leaking oil
Hi tech....just tokeep the history intactI m continuing the ABS discussion in the same thread.
Just an observation that has confused me.
When I started from my work today, The ABS/Tracks Off lights wereON (Please note that I havent got the code read/cleared) but as soon as I was pulling out from the parking I noticed that lights were gone and they reappeared again as soon as I hit the street (15 seconds time). This just made me think that is there a self diagnostics built into this system which clears the light/codes once the problem is correctred and in my case its getting triggered again by some loose wiring or this has got nothing to do with my stored codes and the lights will go OFF onceI get the codes cleared by VOlVO (I called them and they charge $57 to do that).
BTW, I have also replaced the contact reelwith your instructions and took me 10 minutes to pull one out from the yard and about 20 minutes to nicely put it in in my car.
Please advise, because if you suspect that there is still something loose with ABS wiring then I can rework on it before I take it in for clearing the codes. Big thanks in advance.

It is possible they can go bad at anytime.
You can also Ohm the sensors to make sure the sensors are reading.
I asked about the headlights and shift lock because when the electrical part of the ignition switch goes bad it will keep the ABS light on but the headlights and shift lock won't work till you play with the key some.

RE: 96 850 Non turbo - Leaking oil
I think I foubd the problem. Light goes OFF everytime I start and then kicks ON as soon as I make a deep right turn. I drove it to wreckers this morning avoiding deep rights and the lights never came ON and they appeared as soon as i made a extream right during parking. I am assuming now that the ABS sensor cable on left is stretched and is loosing a contact during sharp turns.
I also got the second ABS unit pulled from the wreckers this morning but I think i will not even need it. I will do the cable repair/replacement this evening and will update you later somtime.
I pulled the cable from the same car with sensor and cut it from past the second gromet. I hope i will be able to make the contacts there.so that the chances of multiple breakages can be omitted.
It was hard to remove the module without the proper bit (E5 or E6 what ever is it called) but i mangaged to do it with a head of a screw from the contact reel (T-20 I guess) gripped in the vise-grip.

RE: 96 850 Non turbo - Leaking oil
Just finished replacing the cable/connector and took it for a test drive for about 20 Kms and no lights ON so far. Now the only light ON is SRS and I am just shopping for the cheapest place. I found a volvo mechanic asking for $50 to clear the light. I will certainly update you on any progress.

JUST to keep you guys posted on the completion of this project and ending this thread....I found a local volvo mechanic who did the SRS light reset on my car today and its quite a wonderful feeling to drive it without any pinching light on.
