Default 1995 850 Turbo leaking oil from intercooler drain

recently my 1995 850 Turbo develops a very dirty puddle of oil under my intercooler after a medium short drive, and my engine oil is clean, and its not burning oil, what would cause this? pcv malfunction?

Thanks

Sounds like a clogged PCV to me. A lot of oil in the intercooler and the piping is a big red flag.

Turbo could be passing some oil as well.

well the ptc is clean, there was a small clog in the big line goin to the ptc, that line is clear now, but the small line from the intake flows air but very little its doing a bit better since i cleaned the line

Default Oil leaking from intercooler

Sorry to reply to an old thread but I did a search and this post came up. I have a 1998 V70 AWD and seem to have the same problem. When I park my car, the next day I have a big oil puddle under the intercooler and a smaller one under the turbo. Both oil lines have been changed with no improvement. Then I got the breather box changed(which is under the intake manifold) and a pipe from the oil pan to the turbo cleaned out to relieve possible pressure in the engine. $1200 latter and still no improvement. I am starting to suspect the turbo itself, but my mechanic says they rarely go bad. Any suggestions?

Oil leaks are fun to chase down. Are you having any preformance issues? The best thing to do to chase down oil leaks is to wipe everything down, put the car on ramps or something, and dig in till you find the leaks. Hoses, cam seals, etc. Now that your PCV system has been replaced you can fix oil leaks and they may stay sealed.

Oil in the intercooler is going to come from one of two places (or both).

1. The turbo
2. The PTC

These are the only two things that could introduce oil into your intake. If your turbo is drowning it could be either or both. The turbo is just going to throw what oil it gets into the intake piping to the intercooler.

You could disconnect your PTC pipe from the intake then connect a longer hose dumping into a jar. Drive a bit and see what you end up with in the jar.

Ok, so I cleaned out the PTC nipple and oil is still leaking from the intercooler intake hose. I will try your jar idea to figure out if the oil is coming from the flame trap or the turbo. Which of the three hoses do I need to put into the jar? There is the big one on top of the PTC, there is one on the side of it (facing the firewall, I think this one comes from the intake manifold?) and there is one just behind the PTC which connects directly into the intake hose.

Yea don't believe the mechanic that told you turbos do not go bad, I have a 96 850 turbo wagon for her and a 97 850 T5 sedan for me, both turbos were replaced, the wagon at 120k and the sedan at 140k, my new problem is random smoking from the T5. I just talked to the shop and they suggest draining the intercooler of oil I don't know how to do this.

I had a similar issue with a 97 850 T5. Turned out to be a small leak at the oil cap. The oil was eventually finding its way onto the manifold. New oil cap, and no more smoke.
