Is it inevitable that the evaporator on a '96 850R will go bad?

I'm looking at a wagon for my daughter with 112K on it and trying to figure on how costly maintaining this car will be for her. Thanks.

 

Yes it will go at one time.
Look at where the A/C lines go into the firewall. If the evap tubes have white washers on them the evap is OEM.

 

The evap seems to be one of those items where it is not a case of "IF" it will go bad, but "When"

 

Yeah it has the white rings like you noted although the AC seems to work fine so far.

I went and bought it anyway. I never drove an R before and it was a nice ride. 112K and it runs smooth and handles nicely. Very solid feel.

 

The R's are really nice cars. I love mine.
