96 GLT Auto Climate Control problem
My problem is an unusual one. To me at least...
I have the climate control with temp controls for driver and passenger. With cool weather fast approaching, I was testing my heater. I just bought this car a month ago, so I dont know if this is a new or old problem. Well, the passenger side blows out great heat when turned up all the way. The driver side, on the other hand, blows cool air from the center vent and warm air from the side vents. Not hot, like the passenger vents, but warmer than the center vent.
Is this a sign of a bad climate control unit? Is there a simple fix that I can do like soldering in a new resistor or just redoing a soldered joint? Could this also explain why my a/c compressor clicks on and off instead of staying on to cool the air? I know my schrader valve is leaking from the low port. Where can I get a replacement valve?

Any auto parts store can get you a valve, you just need to look for someone who is willing to crack open a book to find the right one for your vehicle. They are NOT all the same the way tire valves are.
You might have a problem with the blend door motors but I don't know enough about the system to remotely diagnose it. I know on mine I have an issue like yours but different too and I'm sure my flow or direction problems are door motor issues but I'm still trying to find a diagram of what motor does what before I tear into it. Getting late in the year to be playing with it as I can remember how cold my feet were last year (Minnesota) when I couldn't get the heater to direct to the floor.

this morning, I was trying to direct air flow and it wouldnt change from face at all. If it did change, it continued to blow at the face as well. Did it this afternoon and it changed each time like it should, but still blew some air at the face. I think something is seriously up with the control unit...
The problem is it is a system. A system made up of different parts. The control head is just that. It is the control center but it sends a signal to motor. It might be sending the correct signal 100% of the time and the motor is intermittent. Some times it moves, sometimes it moves partially or it doesn't move at all. The motor moves a door. The head and motor could be functioning perfectly and the door could be jammed as in a ball point pen or something falling off the dash down the defroster vent and jamming the movement of the door. Good control head, good motor and door jammed all the time or jams part of the time. The problem is knowing how it's supposed to work, what is supposed to move and how it's supposed to move. That is my problem too. I know what my system isn't doing but I don't know which motor is supposed to do what. If I did I could mechanically remove the motor and see if I can physically work the door and then manipulate the control head to visually see if the motor is responding through it's travel. This is why this kind of problem is near impossible to diagnose unless you have had the exact same problem or you can get hands on with it. I'm trying to find a diagram of where the different blend motors are on the plenum and what each is supposed to do. My understanding is that on the ECC system there are more than five. I have found three behind the glove box and I know there are two above the radio area. BUT, I haven't see a diagram anywhere that actually shows them.
