Default 96 Wagon Top Trim

Most of the black plastic has peeled away from the top trim strips on my wagon. Replacing the strips takes too much $$$$$. I would like to remove the remainder of the plastic covering and then polish and seal the bare aluminum. How can the remainder of this covering be safely removed?

Thanks

Ray

I removed it gently.

on my 850 part of the trim strips were already removed, so i just started to remove it step by step not all together, giving time to take its own.

so it took me week or two.

this is my experience, never tried anything else hope it will help you

See if you can find the strips off of a 98 model. The do not peel and have the little lip by the windshield to keep the water from blowing off the windshield and into the car if the window is open. I have the 98 strips on both my 850's.

i was actually messing with mine this afternoon in the parking lot while my wife was at her doctors appointment.i took a razor to it but i kept accidentally going into the weather stripping so i quit until i can find my ex-acto knife..also i went to the parts store to buy all my tune-up parts and my friend who works there asked to see the car..i was a lil embarrased because it was a bit dirty..I HATE DIRTY CARS!!!but i havent had time because of work.so after that itook it to an automated carwash..AND FORGOT TO RETRACT THE ANTENNA!!![sm=smiley35.gif]!!![sm=headbang.gif]..

I kept trimming mine back till it all came loose. I also tried to polish it and it didn't come out like I wanted it to so I am still deciding what I want to do from here.

I might try painting them with the plastidip paint.

I have an extra set from a 98 S70. You come up and put my fender and door on an they are yours. haha

The darn things are almost impossible to ship. When Justin bought his S70 I took them off the wrecked car that donated the front end to the car he bought.

I now have the Volans on the T5R and 15" wheels on the 850 R. Wife drives the white one most of the time cause she does not like the way the car rides with the 17" wheels. The Volans look good on the T5R, but I like the look of the Titans better. I keep hearing they are really soft wheels that bend easily so I have not bought a set. Eventually I might put a set of 17" pegs on the T5R though. They look very similar to the Titans.

I recently re-did the strips on the top of my 94 850 sedan. After removing the loose platic I found a great way to remove the glue residue off of the metal......try some ladies nail polish remover!! It comes off great...but just make sure you don't get it on anything else. I had taken the strips off, and due to the cold weather was doing it on our kitchen table....ah, well, guess who got to go buy a new table cloth when I managed to spill some on the table...duh!! Ha ha...anyway...the stuff works great!! I then used a flat black spray paint and they came out looking like new. Hope this helps!
