Default '97 850 Wagon Can't control flow of HVAC

When I turned the **** to direct the flow of HVAC (lower vents, upper vents, defrost) it doesn't seem to do anything. I can't get it to blow out of lower vents at all. Always blowing in combination of upper vents and defrost. All I can do is make it blow more defrost or more upper vents. Is the vent selection controlled mechanically, vaccuum, or electric? I'm sick of cold feet and burning face.

I'm not sure if it is electric or vac, but here are directions to remove the center console so you can find out.

Hope it helps a little atleast.

Good luck

here's a diagram of both the ECC and MCC don't know which one you have.

if you have an ECC I'd look at the damper motors, MCC the damper cables or the ****.

if you have an ECC and you have codes the lights will flash when you start the car. This means there are codes stored and you can read them to help you track down the problem.

I'm guessing ECC means Electronic/Electric Climate Control and MCC means Mechanical Climate Control? So the only way to know which I have is to take it apart and look?

It is kind of hard to to describe exactly what is going on, but when I turn the know to change area of flow you can actually feel something in the know is turning properly. It is almost like there is resistance in some positions and none in others.

ECC= electronic climate control(Numbers for temps and AUT on the fan control and flow control ****.
MCC= manual climate control(Colors for temps)
