I was planning to change out my cabin air filter (based on the great videos on this forum) and when I opened it up I saw that I have no filter, just an adapter black plastic piece. Makes me wonder what exactly I was charged for during a tune up which included an cabin air filter.

Anyways, I was planning to get:

Volvo Cabin Air Filter Retainer (C70 S70 V70 850) 9488525 | FCP Euro (Volvo Cabin Air Filter Retainer (C70 S70 V70 850) 9488525)

and

Volvo Cabin Air Filter (C70 S70 V70 850) - Charcoal 9171296C | FCP Euro (Volvo Cabin Air Filter (C70 S70 V70 850) - Charcoal 9171296C)

That should work right?

Yes, you do not have the cabin filter setup.

The retainer and the filter is all you need. The retainer goes in place of the black plastic piece you have now.

Thanks everyone! Ordered it today. Also bought a proper car jack and mechanics tool set which will make working on this beauty a lot better.

 

Mine had no cabin filter, just that flange like in the photo. I pulled a filter retainer from an 850 in a junkyard. Installed it in my car with a new filter, simple to do.

What do you mean by PROPER? If you are referring to the Volvo jack that comes with the car, they are barely good for changing a tire. Please Do NOT ever get under the car with it on a Volvo jack, not even to grab a pencil.

 

I mean a 2.5 ton floor jack so I can lift the car quickly and put jack stands under the car. Makes life a lot easier than lifting the car with Volvo jack. Thanks for the concern.
