Default Air Pump help

I am getting the Air Pump code. Just replaced it w/relay in 2007. Want to be sure before I buy another one. Is there a way to test it? Could it be a fuse? If I do replace it, do I take it out from up top or from underneath?

Thanks

You could try running power to it directly to see if it turns on. If it does, the pump it good.

As for testing the relay, try removing the relay and then jumping the line to see if the pump comes on.

Default Another question about air pump

How do I know if I have an air pump or not? I'm trying to find an engine for my 1997 850 wagon. I have the 2.4L with 6th and 7th VIN digits of 55.

Just bought my son a 94 850 for his last semester in college. Air pump started cycling when engine is off. Runs down battery. Any thoughts?

97s should have an air pump. To verify, look art your air filter cover- is there a hose coming off of the side of it about 1.5" diameter? yes? you have an air pump. No? no air pump.

Test the pump and relay, as FCPgroton told you to. If the pump is bad again, buy a new check valve when you buy the pump, or else the new pump will soon fail, as well. If the check valve is bad, it's allowing exhaust gases to back- feed into the pump when it's off, and that's not good for the pump.

Could be a sticky or weak relay.

Default Air Pump

Thanks Carrots, that's what I was thinking. Do you know off hand where the relay is located? I've never had a Volvo before.

It is under the front end by the air pump. They are known to fill with water.
