Its for the 95 but I would think they are all similar?

It seems Volvo doesnt want you to overhaul the transmission (there is a note at the beginning). They only want you to R&R it. Figures. So no overhaul information is available from Volvo. Probably why they cant be rebuilt successfully.

Toyota also uses these tranny's.

 

FCP Groton sells the solenoids. I think they can be done with the tranny in the car. BEFORE doing anything drastic try flushing the fluid and adding the Lucas. Also, my sister in-laws 95 turbo did something similar a few times, she also had the "flashing up arrow" on other occasions so I replaced the PNP switch. ALL the problems went away. I took apart her old switch just to see what the deal is with these and I think it is possible that an intermittant contact inside could cause issues that might not trigger the arrow or a code. Also check the mode switch, make sure it is functioning properly. In addition make sure the UP arrow lights up in first gear.
