Default axle boot replacement?

How bad is an front axle boot replacement on a 1994 850 passenger side?
I have already read the "bay 13" instructions, anyone have any big problems with the job?
Thanks

Sometimes holding the clip open while tapping the joint off can be a pain. Sometimes it will just slide right off.

Axles are pretty check for the 850 so honestly, I would just replace the whole thing. This is what I did on the drive side on my 850 when the boot ripped. Here is the how to I made when I did it.

HOW TO: Replace a trans axle.

I second that. If you're gonna have the thing apart anyway, why not just replace the axle?

Just to throw it out there, They do make a 2 piece boot that you can put on without taking the axle apart.

However im part of the just replace the whole damn thing club...

Thanks for the input, however i'm going to try replacing the boots first, there is no dirt in there and all the grease is still there also (must have just ripped) if it do'nt work out than it's new axle time.

I forth the replacement of the whole axle. The axles are plenty cheap enough from fcp groton.

Either way, good luck with the job.

Ok done, man!! I needed a puller to get the axle out of the wheel bearing (auto zone 20 bucks) .
Lost a quart of auto trans. fluid when I pulled the axle out of the trans. had it out over night.
Getting the outer cv joint off the axle was another event.
But the best, that I was not expecting, was when I removed the inner axle boot and this tan colored goo came out really fast, it was pretty thin fluid. If I had known about this in advance you could hold the axle upright with the outer cv at the top and it all would have stayed in there till I got the new boot on.
