RE: AXLE NUT/CV BOOT REPLACEMENT???
How do I get the axle nut off (passanger side front wheel hub) I am using a breaker bar with a 48" gas pipe extention and liquid wrench with not even the slightes budge. What I am trying to do is replace the CV boot which is toren. It's a 1995 850 T5R, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!!!.

If the nut is of staked type, you have to "unstake" the flange. If it is not a staked type, well, keep trying or resort to PB Blaster & an impact gun.
CV boot replacement can be challenging. You need to spread the ends of a Circlip. Haynes tells you to spread the ends with a flat screwdriver, but I would use snap-ring plier or something like that. If the Circlip breaks on you, you have to remove the driveshaft from transmission and put the boot from the opposite end-something I had to do. The axle nut is torqued at about 85-90ft-lbs plus 120 degrees (?). Haynes manual has these figures but I believe some members can tell you the exact numbers.

RE: AXLE NUT/CV BOOT REPLACEMENT???
Thanks for the info, I borrowed an impact wrench from a friend took the axle nut right off. Although once in to it I decided to buy the whole axle instead of replacing the boot. The whole axle and CV joint from NAPA AUTO was $69.00 which is half the cost of the CV boot kit I bought from the DEALER ($124.00). So back goes the boot kit, car is running great.

Oh the manual said 85 pounds torqued and 60 degrees, but the instructions the came with the axle/cv joint said 170lb plus. I do not have a torque wrench that goes beyond 85lb so I just impacted the nut back on. I figure the car has 141,000 by the time that needs to be replace again I will be the owner of a new volvo/audi

RE: AXLE NUT/CV BOOT REPLACEMENT???
Someone must have typoed the number; 170ft-lbs is way too much on those nuts. I used my inch-lbs torque wrench (Snap-on) and tightened it to 1,000 in-lbs (that was the max number on my torque wrench, and it had to be torqued at 1050 in-lbs or something like that). I then eye-balled it for additional degrees, which I thought was 120 but it's been a couple of years since I did the job so my memory might have been off for that one. I would check with Haynes manual or some members could give you the exact number.
EDIT: On the next page of the manual I attached, the centre nut is torqued at 80ft-lbs which is less than what Haynes says, then additional 120 degrees. I guess the nut is fine as long as it is tightened to German torque (Guten Tight[8D]).
