Default Ball Joint Pinch Bolt

Help!!!

I am trying to replace my lower ball joint on an 850. I cant get the "pinch bolt" out that fastens the ball joint to the spindle. I have tried an air hammer, PC Blaster, chissels and just about anything else. Has anyone got this bolt out?

I've had both of mine off to replace my CV shafts.

Are you having trouble getting the nut off the bolt or the bolt out of the knuckle ??

If you have the nut off, you might need to pry the part of the knuckle that wraps around the stud from the ball joint apart some. That and or pry down a bit between the bottom of the knuckle and the ball joint. You should be able to knock it out fairly easily. If you're having that much trouble it must be under pressure and pinched in place.

Try heating it with a torch. Or get a breaker bar and piece of pipe.

The pinch bolt is always a pain in the butt. Getting the nut off is easy but getting the bolt out of the steering knuckle can be difficult.

The way I handle it is with an impact wrench and an extension to get the bolt spinning CCW as fast as I can. From there, while the bolt is spinning, I use a hammer head to just press it outward. Once it is flush with the steering knuckle it is easy to tap on out with a punch.
