Best way to clean up engine & bay
Ok...last of the new posts for tonight...hopefully
Now that i finally have the engine out of my car, I am going to start cleaning it up...both the engine bay and engine exterior. I'm wondering what methods ppl have used for cleaning/degreasing these areas?
The car is on jack stands in my garage right now, so i guess whatever method i do use, shouldn't be too messy? I had heard of using a pressure washer, but don't really want my garage filled up with greasy water after the cleaning.
Is engine degreaser safe to use on painted surfaces (inside of engine bay)?
Should i be concerned with cleaning anything on the engine...such as damaging any seals, hoses, electric connectors, etc?
I have considered putting the brakes and wheels back on and pushing the car into the driveway for the cleaning if i get a decently warm day.
Thanks for the help!

why do the axle's need to be in the hub if i'm pushing it out?
I'd never consider that an issue, but i'm glad i asked in that case don't wanna break anything else i don't have to.

Yes the bearing is pressed into the housing that gets screwed in but it is a split race. It will come apart if moved to far without the axles in it.

I agree that simple green should make you very happy- and not affect the paint inside the engine bay. Use it full strength in a spray bottle and rinse with running water. It there are really grimey spots, try to de-bulk the grease manually with a rag and then simple green it. If you have stubborn spots try a mild engine degreaser like GUNK engine bright, but be very careful with those types of products.
Good luck and post pictures!
