The Birds
To some on here, this is probably scarier than the 1963 Alfred Hitchcock movie.
There are literally hundreds of crows flocking about on campus. This happened 2 years ago too. They're attracted to campus due to the warmth produced by the city environment and the abundance of food in the trash. Last time, I heard that the campus police tried to power wash some cars that were absolutely COVERED.
My 850 is a '95 (17 years old, with 17 year old paint). It's been pretty well kept and I've washed it by hand for the year and a half I've owned it, but there are defiantly some spots that are wearing thin. If it get a fresh coat of you know what, I fear it'll strip the paint right off.

Carry a 5gal pail (with lid) and make up some soapy water so you can wipe the bird crap down each day. And like RSPI said, a good coat of a good wax will go a long way in protection.
It would be a pain but it would keep up with the birds.
To bad they don't make a disposable car cover !!
Off the subject but I purchased one of the "jelly" blades that I carry with me. When I end up at a self serve car wash they work great for getting rid of most of the water without leaving spots.

I waxed a 960 I had with some of that new spray on, wipe off stuff and a few days later swapped cars with my daughter. She had my car parked somewhere near or on campus and the car got egged. She took it to the car wash and almost all of the dry egg rinsed right off. I'm so glad I put that stuff on it. Would have had to paint the car.
