the plastic piece with the 6 torx bits covering the spark plugs, am i able to drive with that cap off? i jsut wanna do some painting and wondering if its safe to drive without that cover on?

 

The plastic cover is nothing more than a cosmetic addition to the engine; you can drive without it. Be careful not to strip the Torx screws.

While you have the cover off, look for signs of oil leaking from the oil filler cap and collecting by the plug wires.

 

this is a true fact, there is oil leakage, how can i go about fixing that??

 

The oil leakage can be cause by two things.

1) The seal on the oil cap going bad, which is a very easy fix.

2) The PCV clogging up, which is a much more involved job and will cost more.

I would change the oil filler cap seal first and see if that stops it. If it doesn't, then start looking at the PCV system.

 

ok i'll see wat i can do, also can i drive without my throttle cap on? that big plastic piece? i'm gunna assume thats also cosmetic stuff?

 

Do you mean the air filter box?

 

The throttle body/vacuum tree cover, yes, that's cosmetic too. Actually a lot of people who tune their cars remove both of those items. I will.

 

As for the oil on top of the motor near the spark plug wires... You can also check your PCV system by pulling the oil dip stick out about 3 inches after you take the car for a drive. If the system is plugged up it will likely blow smoke out of the dip stick like the top of a steam engine train. You have to check it with the engine running.

On my daughters S70 the blockage actually popped the dip stick out while she was driving.

 

Uhhh, it's actually 4 inches. 3 inches doesn't give you a definitive reading.



And that had happened to me too because of a clogged PCV. POP GOES THE DIP STICK!
