Default Blow off sound coming from turbo?

So one day, my car decides to get a bit touchy, it's a 96 850 r. I am getting a noise that sounds similar to a blow off valve when I let off the gas pedal. It only happens when in gear, and I have not changed anything with the stock turbo. the noise is fairly quiet but you can hear it shutter like a muffled duck quacking. Is there something that could have come loose on the assembly that is now leaking?

Also, i have had problems with the ABS since I got the car. ABS light likes to randomly come on, pedal will shutter a bit as if the ABS is kicking in very randomly, usually during a light pressure. Speedometer doesnt work, as well as odometer. but, now it seems to be really overacting and the pedal will be buzzing even without pressure on it.

help, please

the sound is probably due to a failing membrane in the CBV. They're not hard to replace.

Hopefully someone else can chime in on the brakes/speedo not working. Those are most likely two unrelated problems though.

ABS and speedo are most likely your ABS module... It is a common problem with our 850's. You can Either buy a rebuilt unit, send yours out to be rebuilt, or if you have confidence in soldering you can attempt to repair it yourself.

As for the Odometer, it is most likely a broken gear, also fairly simple to fix. You can get the gear on fcp or ipd.

+1 on the CBV diaphragm starting to go or gone. you can pick up a HD on from IPD

Awesome, that helps a lot.

And as far as the speedo and odom. issue, it works a lot of the time and just quitsrandomly, sometimes during driving, other times before I even start driving. is that still a gear issue? or is it some sort of electrical?

The gear could be catching enough now and then to turn. Instead of questioning it just get it and replace it. By your symptoms it sounds like the gear needs replacing.

As for your intake. Are you running the stock filter box or aftermarket? Reason I ask is with an aftermarket filter system you will hear your CBV. If your losing boost or cant reach boost pressure that you used to be able to reach then the CBV may have a tear in it or has worn a seat into the turbo housing. Fluttering can come from a worn seat. Its not to difficult to remove and inspect.

so, I have located a gear for the odometer on IPD, on part number G15850, it says it will solve the notorious problem, but it also says it is for when your speedometer shows your speed but the odometer goes out. My speedometer does not work either, does that mean I also need part number G15851. This part states that it is sometimes needed in conjunction with other"common" failure gear. I would rather not have to take the dash apart twice.

Thanks!

Man, you have several problems and NO they are not related. If you decide to fix things as they break you won't believe that fixing one thing will cure all 3 problems. 1 Get the ABS module repaired or replaced. 2 Get the gear and fix the odometer. 3 Get the CBV or whatever that is fixed and you'll be good to go. And no those fixes will not help you get better gas mileage.
