Default Blown transmission?

Hey! Long time no seez.

I'm looking at a 95 850 turbo. It has 170k on it. Runs awesome, but the seller says the transmission is blown.

he said one day he was driving, stopped at a store, and then when he came out, it went into reverse like normal, but when he put it in drive, it wouldn't go.

I haven't really heard of many transmission problems.

I need some guidance before diving into this car.

PnP switch? Transmission ECU?

I thought about trying a ratchet clean to see if it shifts into drive then.

Note that I haven't even seen the car yet, but will on Saturday.

What to look for on the trans? I know enough about the rest of the **** with these cars to check for before buying one. I've never come across one with a blown transmission.

Mine had a bad tranny but it wouldn't go in reverse. When I got to the car I pressed the winter mode and drove away like it wasn't nothing, 1,500 miles home.

There is a good chance that it has a bad PNP switch. Tranny's don't usually just blow up with no warning, but electronics do.

GO FOR IT!!!

I am certainly thinking about it.

I almost wonder if the hand brake cables are stuck. That happened to my 97 wagon once, and I thought the trans blew up. Then I figured out that the cables were seized, so I just gutted the entire hand brake assembly (college budget, guys).

The guy did not seem too car savvy on the phone. He said hes had it for eight years and never had an issue with it until the trans crapped out.

I think first I'll try a ratchet clean. I bet he doesn't know that trick. If that even aids it a little, its on like DK.

AHHH.....and the winter mode thing. I'll have to check that as well.

You may be the only person I have encountered to have a bad trans in an 850.

Most people just junk them at this point, when they are told the tranny is bad.

That car should be a $500 special.

Yeah that's the problem. Some yards in the area will give people $500 for their cars.

So, by saying that, can make the seller angry.

The dude was asking $1,400.....lowered to $1,200.....and then yesterday morning it was down to $700. Then, last night, he moved it back to $1,200.

Who knows. It's worth a look though

Ahhhhh, what's with the moving fleet. lol

That's what should be paid for cars that need major work and are over 10 years old.

Anytime you see someone changing the price everyday, they are likely on some substance. Go flash some cash in their face and they'll grab it. Just make sure you get the title when you pay the money.

haha...y'all are always good for a laugh.

Yeah I wouldn't pay more than $700 for it, because that's what it's worth right now.

I did find a very nice 95 in maroon on gray with 160k on the clock for $1,900. So, if I can't pick up this project 850, I'll gladly dump this boring Altima for a different 850T.

Well I just bought an 94 850 for $500. The guy said he could not get it started . $6.00 later it was a fuel pump relay . Now I'm installing a PNP switch plus a few I

I sold my Altima last night, so I'm going to go look at this 850 tonight. He dropped the price to $800.

I'll offer him $500.

This time I made sure to print the ad with his price on it in case later this afternoon he decides to raise it again.

I just REALLY hope its not the transmission, because I don't have the time or space to do it.

If it is just a pnp switch or something simple, this would be a nice pick up!
