Default brake light

The last few days my "brake" indicator light has been coming on. There is no relationship with me "braking" or not but there seems to be a relation with the weather. In the mornings when it is cold it stays on but later in the day when it warms up a bit the light doesn't come on???
The brake fluid level is okay and nothing else has been done with the brake system....
Any idea what could be causing this?
Thanks

Actually I noticed today when I brake harder, of brake going downhill the light comes on after a bit...but usually goes off again after 10 seconds or so...
could that still be due to sensor in cap?

Hello Mr. vlvnut,

You could try removing the cap and moving the float manually, while watching the brake indicator. This may require an assistant. If you have a digital multimeter, you could connect the meter to the sensor connector in "continuity" or "Ω" mode and see how the sensor responds, according to the float movement. This procedure needs to be done quick, as the fluid absorbs moisture and the boiling point of the fluid goes down. Or, you could put a plastic wrap around the reservoir opening and keep it with rubber band.

You could also double check the fluid level, and add fluid to MAX line with DOT-4 fluid. If the fluid hasn't been changed in the last 3 years, I would flush the system with fresh DOT-4 fluid.

Good luck,

JPN
