Burned Valve- New Head?
I my good friend that turned my on the 850 has a 1997 850t wagon, and her mechanic has told her that she has a burned valve. He's a volvo specialist small shop, so I'm sure that he's right.
I'm guessing that the head has to be replaced to correct the issue. The car is in decent shape but nothing spectacular.
Anyone else ever dealt with this? The mechanic quoted $2500 for the repair, and that too much for a car that old.
Let me know if you have any ideas on how to fix it cheaper, and how big a job is it? Any sources on the new head?
If the car is done for, what are people getting for one with this kind of problem? What would be a fair price to pay her for it? and is anyone out there looking for something like this?
Thanks

You can likely lap a new valve in but even if you need a new head check Clearwater Heads in Clearwater Florida.

The folks that have used them on the various boards have been pleased.
In either case tack on the price of a head gasket kit and - if it was me doing the job - new head bolts.
