93 850 ECC burned up, fan on high, ETC...
I replaced the resistor pack 2x, 1 didn't work, 1 still only works on high. NO LIGHTS were ever on ecc, I bought car a month ago. There is a TSB # 87812 for ecc wiring, I guess it's for using 1994 up ecc in 93 but can't find out from dealer. I don't want to burn up another one without confirming. This one I took apart to look for bad solder joints, 5 capacitors and the board are are melted! AC starts out COLD , gradually getting warmer and cycling more, but have no contol over it. I'm in Florida, Volvos don't like the heat down here!

RE: 93 850 ECC burned up, fan on high, ETC...
I replaced the ECC with a FREE one a couple days after original post, everthing work s great even weeks later, a blower resistor is NOT the only thing that will cause a high speed only fan, checked my other blower res. all speeds work on them also. However I did find the TSB for wiring on the eec \ blower for a 1993 850 obviously some problem exists. In Orange county, Florida we can access ARRC (auto repair reference center) online through our library - it requires a library card and pin to access.

AllData.com has TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) 87812 = A/C - ECC Control Module Wiring Modification.
I am not a member of AllData so I am unable to access the information.
This is the link, but again, you will need a subscription.

Again, sorry I can not help you more.

*Fixed*
I recently purchased a '93 850 w/ ECC. I had the "no control over ECC" "fan stuck on high heat" issue. After replacing the power stage (resistor pack) and turning the ignition on, the fan would come on for a half of a second and then turn off, still no control over the ECC and the illumination on the ECC unit would turn off when the headlights were turned on. I replaced the main ECC unit with a salvaged one out of a '94 850 and everything started working. A/C is not that cold but I think it may just need recharged. Total cost me a $40 power stage, a $40 ECC unit, an hour under the dash board and an hour round trip to pick up parts. Nice.

if your unit has the green inputs on the back, which it probably does since it is a 95 850, you can easily find a bunch of replacements on ebay. we are talking about the control unit, the thing where you pick the temp you want the car to be and control the fan speed and so on. just ebay volvo 850 climate control and you'll find plenty of replacements.

Check with your library. Some libraries pay for the AllData service and it's free to patrons. You don't even need to have a card here in Dakota County, MN. It's loaded on the same computers you use to look up a book. You just need to switch over to "Electronic Reference" on our system but if we have it others must have it too.
