A/C Troubles Off to Dealership
We tried to recharge with recharge kit but it didnt work. When the A/C is on the car revives up and down and makes strange sounds. There is no cold air at all coming from the vents.
I know people have had A/C problems and have taken there cars to the Dealership. What did everyone end of paying?
I have heard 1500 for a/c repairs. The thing is i want the a/c fixed but cant afford 1500? Do they first do diagnostic test on A/C? Do you have to pay for this? Will they check for free then tell me what i will pay?
Please let me know. Its HOT!!!

RE: A/C Troubles Off to Dealership
Since it's the stealership, they're going to kill you on "inspection fees". It'll be probably 100 bucks just to check...Hell, the shops/dealerships around the area charge about 100 just to read codes which take about 10 minutes max.
I'd say your most likely probably is a dead evaporator. Here are tech's instructions on the job.

It's a real pain in the ***, but it's $1500 (What Jim paid to the dealer) vs $200-300 (Cost of the part).
You're definetely right about it being hot. Especially since my car has black leather seats, a/c is almost a must. I'm probably going ot replace the evaperator during the summer with a friend. I'm not going to pay 1500 bucks lol.
Edit: I had my numbers wrong. Jim paid $1300. The part is only $139. 1300 v. 139. You make the choice lol.

Good evening Jimmy,
1-How do I know if I need a freon recharge?
a) The air coming out of the vents are not cold enough.
b) The compressor keeps turning on & off.
c) Connect a recharge kit that has an in-line pressure gauge and check pressure on the low side.
*The correct system pressure is between 25-33 PSI.
2-How do I know if my compressor is bad?
It would keep turning on & off, even when the system has correct amount of R134a (Hydrofluorocarbon).
3-How do I know if my evaporator is bad?
The system keeps leaking R134a and cannot hold charge.
The evaporator & ABS module on 850 are guaranteed to fail.
If you don't have a recharge kit, buy one at an auto parts store. Make sure to get one for R134a, NOT R-12, though most likely you'll get an R134a kit, as R-12 has become obsolete. If possible, buy a kit that has long hose or the one that has in-line gauge. I bought one that had pressure gauge right on top of the bottle, which prevented easy attachment of the hose, as the gauge kept getting in the way.

The 1st pic is the one I'd recommend, and 2nd is the one I bought, which is the one I would stay away from. Make sure to read the back of the package to make sure that the R134a bottle contains PAG (compressor) oil in it (most do).
