Cabin air filter replacement for the Volvo 850 and S70
Here are my step by step instructions for replacing the cabin air filter in the Volvo 850 and S70.

I know this is basic but I have seen the question several times. It should be replaced yearly.

RSPI, when you are next at a junkyard can you have a look for the black plastic tray the filter sits in, the one that sits over the intake hole?
I went and bought a filter thinking it needed to be replaced, but mine is missing the tray that it sits in. There's no hurry, I am on annual leave in 3 days and wont be contactable for a couple of weeks.
Thanks

No, it was just old and rotted out. Look like some critter had lived on it at some point. Probably had the bubonic plague in it.
My first T-5R did NOT have it so I installed one from iPd I think, my car did have it.
The filter pictured above was from a S70 GLT that was just purchased.
You know, it really blows me away that people think changing the oil every 3,000 miles and fixing things that HAVE to be fixed is good car care.
