Cam and cam gear problem
i recently tore down the headof a 92 850 to replace six bent valves. when i did that i separated the cam gears from the cam shafts. Now, my problem is each cam has three equally space bolt holes 120 degrees apart giving me three choicesand i didn't mark the gears before removal. so, i don't know how to install the gears so the TDC markson the gearwill line up properly, placing the cam at the correct timing. any help solving this problem will be greatly appreciated. thanks

RE: Cam and cam gear problem
You need to lock the cams in place. Haynes has a good description of how to do it along with "plans" for a homemade tool. Just pay attention to the offset of the slot on the back of the cams. Your next problem is going to be getting the cams timed back correctly. The cam sprockets don't have holes, they have slots that allow for adjustment of the cam timing. I always use spray paint to mark where the bolts were centered before I take them off but centered in the slot is usually about right.
