Question Car starts rough just after getting gas

Hi Folks,

I have been noticing that my 94 850 Turbo (230K miles) has been starting rough right after I put in gas (I usually fill up the entire tank). She runs perfectly fine after. Today however, right after I filled her up, she wouldn't start. I had to squeeze the gas while cranking to get her to start. Again, once started she drove perfectly fine. Any ideas what could be causing this kind of behavior. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks!

is your gas cap on tightly? That's the first thing I would check, as the whole fuel system is pressurized on our cars.

Thanks ibified and tater. I will try to get a new gas cap first and see if that fixes it and if not, I'll replace the fuel pump.

I love this forum!!

Go 850!!

Hi Guys, I had a check engine light on with the P0440 code (something to do with the EVAP cannister). I went and got a new fuel cap today with a button on it that allows me to relieve the pressure before I open the fuel cap when refueling. I also reset the CEL - I am going to wait and see if the CEL comes back (i'm hoping the new cap will fix this issue).

Thanks again for your responses!

Happy Fall!
