Default car wont start need help

i have a 94 volvo 850 that wont start. I removed the starter and had it rebuilt, when i went to put it back on it still would not start. I know that the problem not in the starter, had rigged up a toggle switch directly to the starter and can start it that way. Cant figure out what is wrong. I have been told by others to either replace the ignition coil or to replace the pnp switch. does this seem right.where should i start.

Also have had been having a problem with it shaking real bad when i put it in reverse. also it doesnt really go anywhere if you press the gas in reverse i can let it idle back and its no problem. what can i do to fix it. or does the transmission need to be replaced i dont have any problems in any other gear though.

thanks for you help
cassie

that suggests an issue with the PNP switch. ECM not getting a signal from it will cause the transmission light to flash. Pull codes, but I'll bet that that's your problem.
