Default Clearing Error Codes

Used the search but don't know how to read or reset the codes. I replaced the ignition switch today in hopes of fixing a stalling problem and the flashing arrow, but the arrow has not gone away. Car seems to drive ok, not in limp mode. I would like to clear the codes to see if the arrow goes out.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

Joe

I did not know that I needed a special part to reset the codes. I am not a mechanic. Just a DIYer.

Thanks,

Joe

You don't need a special tool for a 93. That's for 95 and newer. You just need to follow those directions that are in that link. I did it on my 94 and was able to reset my CEL.

"Once all faults have been corrected, turn the ignition switch to the ON position(engine not running).Recheck the codes, then depress the button for 5 seconds and release. After 3 seconds, the LED should light up.While the LED is lit, depress the button again for 5 seconds, when the button is released, the LED should go out."

It seems you need the diagnostic unit for this operation. "Press the Button", "Led Light"???

Did I get to the wrong link?

I can't remember exactly where it is, but there is a little black box under your hood that you need to get into. I think it's somewhere near the coolant resevoir. Once you open it up, you will see what the pictures in the link are referring to. I did it once, and can not remember exactly what I did. Try searching around more and there will be a message that tells you more and where to locate the box under the hood.

Found the box. Pin 6, 1-1-1. Pin 2, 1-2-1 on first try. tried to clear then 1-1-1. The flashing arrow has gone out and the check engine light has gone out. I replaced the ignition switch also so I hope all is well and no more stalling. Time will tell.

Thanks for your help.

Joe

Glad you got it to work. You had me wondering if I was giving good information since it is different from the cars I have now.
