Default Code 3-2-5 ECU memory failure

Does anyone know exactly what this code means? Does it ALL the time mean that the ECU is bad?

My manual says to do the following:

CODE 3-2-5 (Memoty Failure)
Check wiring between ECM terminal A26 and battery positive terminal for an intermitten open circuit. Also, check ECM connector and battery positive terminal for a loose connection, contact resistance, or oxidation.

I guess it means that your ECM is loosing it's constant power. Did the battery die or something?

Yea, I took the battery out. So not a big deal, right?

I don't think so. Just clear the code and drive the car. If it runs good, don't worry about it.

A general rule I have with a 10+ year old car, if a code pops up, I check it, clear it, and see if it returns. If the car is running well, don't worry about it unless it comes back again.

Well thats the thing... the car isn't running. I changed the head gasket (among other things) and now with everything back together it doesn't start up. It could be a number of things, but that is the only code I have got. Once it's cleared, it doesn't come back on unless the battery is taken out.

What is odd, that I have not got a direct answer to, is that the A6 terminal on the diagnostic unit does not respond. I feel this might be bad.

I have one of those boxes out of a '94 turbo if you want it. You'll have to swap the jump wire because this one is almost broken.

Are you getting spark?

Yea getting spark, fuel, and compression.

That would be great to get another diagnostic box...but I'm not sure if that is what's broken. When in terminal A6, the red light illuminates when the button is pressed. But there is no response in codes. Not even 1-1-1. A2 works fine.

I have a OBD II scanner...would that tell me everything that A6 would tell me?
