The car looks to be in decent shape from the photos but what I'm really wondering since I've never owned this model Volvo is for any regularly occurring issues with them.

Basically a laundry list of things to check outside of the normal sphere of things. I'm used to the older 240's so any info would be appreciated.

A lot is different. Very little room in engine compartment in 850. 850 is more modern for sure. It drives like a FWD, you will notice the difference. Doors thump differently.

About the same MPG. 850 likes premium more than regular gas, though many people run regular.

Timing belt is unforgiving.

Was your 240 a turbo?

Henry, I've dealt with a DOHC Honda so I know about the unforgiving timing belt you mentioned which is why I liked my 240, and no...it wasn't a turbo. I picked it up after my divorce because I wanted my kids to be as safe as possible and a Honda sure wasn't going to cut it.

I've just started looking at the 850 so the buyers guide was a huge help. I'd rather not walk into quirky problems specific to the model if I can easily avoid them.
