Seriously Considering buying this 1998 S70 GLT. Need Opions..
Hi guys
I saw this 1998 S70 GLT on ebay and I am seriously considering buying this S70 with only 71K miles on it. I called the guy and asked him where he got the car from and he said that he got it from a dealer auction. He said that he has the carfax report on it and that it has never been in any accident. Its also a one owner car. He said that he might go down on the price a little bit. Im thinking of making him an offer of $4,500. Plus it will take about $600 to ship the car to my place from PA to Chicago. Just want to get some opinions before I decide to pull the trigger. Because I also dont want to buy a lemon car. Below is the Ebay link for the car.

Looks very nice but I would never buy a car sight un-seen. I would drive down there and ck it out thoroughly before I would pull the trigger. Then if you get it, rent a trailer and bring it home.
Only things I noticed from pics:
Only things I noticed from pics:
- and this could be my imagination; does it look like rt rear fender paint doesn't quite match RR door? Remember; clean carfax doesn't necessarily mean anything; it's not gospel.
- All four interior door panels puckered; rears doing this is normal (well virtually all of them do it) but not so much on fronts.

I'd send a car inspector to check it out and buy it. Then I'd fly to pick it up. I have purchased 2 850's sight unseen. The first I had inspected, the second I knew was a little rough with a bad tranny. Flew 1500 miles and drove them back.
If the car is what the guy says it is, it's likely worth the $5k. Looks like the back pass door is a different color so it's likely been in an accident. I had a 960 that I was given total value for after my daughter drive off the road and hit a street sign. Still have a CLEAN CAR FAX 3 years later.

All the front doors I.ve seen are 'puckered' by now. Not an easy or inexpensive fix, most of us just live with it.
I think the door is OK, just the angles of the door and fender. If thats all that was hit it wouldn't be a major accident but would lower the price.
The driver mat is not original of course, odd in a car with so little mileage to be worn out. They last forever.
Best advice is an inspector or pay for a trip tp a volvo dealer. But why trailer it back home? Drive the sucker! They are nice cars on the road, it has a turbo so pack a GPS unit, radar detector and go!

I was trying to figure out where you guys seen more than 1 pic and finally seen the link.
The car looks good. I know a lot of people that live in PA that never drive their cars in the snow. Also, you can look at the car fox to see if the odo is correct. It will usually have odo readings on it until about 3 years ago. When we got ours, the cluster read 83,500 but the car had over 125,000.

I bought a 2000 S70 GLT 96k, for $3900.....
Putting every bit of that into her:
1. Shocks, Struts, Mounts. Spring holders.
2. Brakes, Calipers, Hyd. Lines
3. Timing Belt, pulleys, Serp. Belt, Water Pump
4. New Projector Headlight Assemblies
5. Reman Throttle Body Assy. *XeModo)
6. New Tires all around.
7. Oil, Tranny, and Coolant fluids changed.
Maybe an ABS module, but I think that should be good for another 100k, and at least six years.....
Good luck with your search !!

I just purchased an S70 for 2500 CND... what do you mean by the interior panels puckering?? mine look ok... only issue i have with the car atm is the front passenger door being able to open while locked :S oh and that crazy lambda light just came on... i cant find anything about that in the OM... anyone know what that means?? i did a google search but it was kinda vauge other then saying it had something to do with fuel and emissions. its at the shop right now getting a new windsheild and i mentioned these to the mechanic... hoping they are not insanely expensive fixes?

Found another nice one guys. And this one only has 47k miles on it. I emailed the guy and he said that it is a two owner car which he bought from his father 5-6 months ago but he said its just not his style of car. He said that his father originaly bought it from this one very old guy who hardly drove it. Im thinking of buying a carfax report for this and go from there. How much is this car actually worth buying for.

Go to www.NADAGuides.com and go from there. I have never heard someone say "it's not my style". I think it has issues that he doesn't want to deal with unless he's just afraid of old cars.
His info makes it a 3 owner car, you would be 4. When it goes to cars that old, what difference does it make? Resale is shot unless it's unique, like a T5M. Just make sure you have it checked out. If age/time wasn't an issue, the car would likely be worth about $16,000. Is it a GLT or T5?

Are you in Tenn? If it's as cherry as the ad says it is then it's worth in the $3-5K range. But again, need to thoroughly ck it out before spending that kind $$.
