Coolant leak - revisited - might be screwed here
So I stopped the car in the garage today, and had the hood popped to check a/c refrigerant, and lo and behold, something starts spouting off like a geyser. Way too hot to get in there, but I could see coolant spraying off of the turbo on the intake side - it almost looked like it was coming out of the turbo itself, over by the intake, but I know that can't be because there's no coolant circulating there, right? Any guesses? Unfortunately, it doesn't leak when it's cold, and when it's hot, I cant get to anything to look at it.
This sucks.
This sucks.
Got the coolant system pressure tester.....that didn't take long to find the leak - a little tiny hose (about 6" long or so) that appears to come off the back of the block and connects to the turbo. It has a right angle (almost) in it, and it was a giant pain in the rear to get to, as it was tucked behind the heater core hose. Anyone know what this hose is for? If it matters, it's a 1994 855t with a 16t turbo on it.
its the turbo inlet cooling hose.
Its a common popper, I know 4 people not including you who have had this happen in the last week.
Its a easy fix from underneath.
Volvo 850 Parts | FCP Euro
The dealer should have it for around $7

fix this problem before your car over heats. the same thing happened to my friend and he would not get a new hose but tried to do some adjustment without replacing the hose all together. he ended up with a shot head gasket.
I too am going to be doing some "while I'm in here" type things - namely changing the heater core hoses as well. They look kinda gooey, for lack of a better term. I'm probably just going to do the cheat with the 5/8 heater hoses from heater core to block.
Slim: in all liklihood, i won't own this car the next time the standard rubber hoses need to be replaced, so I'm not spending the extra money for silicone. The original hoses lasted 19 years...who knows where this car will be in 2032...
rspi: I DID order the genuine Volvo hose from FCP...and I doubt that anyone even makes the block to turbo inlet hose in silicone....90 degree turn in it, about 8 inches long, and each end is a different size.
