Default A couple questions regarding a possible purchase

Hey guys I'm new to these forums but a long time volvo lover. I'm currently looking at what could be my first volvo. It's a 1994 850 turbo auto. The problem is that the current owner says it needs a steering rack so I'm wondering how difficult it is to install. Another issue is that it wont start. He says it's a sensor but doesn't know which. My question regarding that is, is there a sensor on these cars that could cause a no start condition? All help is appreciated and I look forward to joining the family!

Yes, the cam position sensor will definitely cause it to not start if bad. It's located on the back side (driver's side) of the cam, but I can't remember if it's on the intake or exhaust side. Can't help you on the Steering Rack, but you can find info on it by searching this site.

It's on the firewall side cam, closer to the turbo. So if that's the intake, it's there.

However, you need to know if you are getting fuel pressure, etc. Could be several things stopping it from starting. Does it crank?

Are you looking for a project car? Sounds like that's what you're looking at...

Thanks for the replies. I'm not sure if it cranks I haven't checked the car out yet, I was trying to do my homework before hand. It's intended to kinda be like a project car but I'm worried about how much work it needs. I may have to let this one go

If the engine doesn't run and you can't drive the car, then there are just a million unknowns! The price would have to be super cheap because you're taking a big risk!

Always assume anything a seller is telling you is untrue, unless you can verify it.
