cranks a lot
What would make my 1997 Volvo 850 crank so much before it starts? It does always start. It seems to me that after it sets awhile is when it happens. If I turn it off, it usally starts on first crank. Thanks
What do you mean by "takes a while"? How many seconds? Do a video and post it. Have you read the "NEW 850 OWNER THREAD"? It may need a tune up.
If you plan to keep the car longer than a week, you should check the following:
1. Oil change with OEM or MANN oil filter.
2. When was the timing belt last changed?
3. When was the PCV last changed?
4. When was the transmission fluid last changed?
5. Fill'er up and run a bottle of Lucas fuel injector cleaner through the tank.

^^ what he said ^^ give us an idea of what "takes a while" means. My 850 always cranked a second or two, sometimes 3 seconds longer than a normal car. Its just how they are. Its the 4.3 motronics. I swapped my 97 T5 ecu for a 98 T5 with 4.4, and it was notably different on starting times and idle smoothness. I wouldnt suggest upgrading like that unless you have an obd2 T5 850, Just thought I'd let you know where the issue is, if its only a couple seconds.
