Exclamation Crumbling shift ****!!!!

The rubber coating on the shift **** of the wagon is either crumbling off or falling off in chunks!! How do you replace the ****? Is their a set screw or does it screw off? I can easily get one at a boneyard but I need to know how it comes off.

Hah, sorry, all I could think of when I saw this was the Wicked Witch of the West from the Wizard of OZ saying...'I'm Melting!'

I know on the S60 you push down and turn. I think on the V70/850 you pull up on it. I would try the push method first.

Default 850 Automatic Shift **** Removal

Was there any resolution to this? I just bought an 850 and the gear shift **** is rather chewed up.

Also, is there a special procedure for reattaching the cable to the shift **** so that the shifter works properly?

Thanks in advance...

Just pull up on the **** real hard and it will come off. When I put them back on I usually give them a stern thump. Be careful not to damage the shifter button. They crack easy.

Thanks! I'll head over to PicNPull this weekend and practice on some junky ones before tackling a good one to use.
