cv joint, replace or rebuild

"used parts lifetime warranties are designed to outlast your ownership, that's my belief anyway. So, let's see, in an old junker that will likely never leave the city limits... that'll be 2 years or 14,000 miles"
Think about that for a minute. What warranty did you get on the CV axle joint re-build kit ?? So how long should those parts last ??
Do you think the parts you used are any different than the ones in a reman axle ?? I've installed a ton of reman axles on cars and I can't remember one coming back unless the boot was ripped and they drove it until it started knocking or it was pulled apart. The pulled apart was usually accompanied by a bad motor or transmission mount or a failed ball joint but we covered the replacement under warranty.
Ripped boots up here (MN) are usually from winter and the driver trying to use his car like a snowplow and going through packed snow with a little sharp ice in it.
Robert, you were in there and touching that shaft, cage and *****. You know the heft of the metal and the precision of the components. A shaft that doesn't get it's boot ripped should easily go 100K, re-built, reman or DIY repair.
I push reman simply because it isn't worth my time going through all the trouble of disassemble and cleaning. The cost to a customer would be about the same either way but with an axle they have a complete warrantied unit. Their butt is covered and so is mine.

I'm redoing the drivers side cv boot. Took it all apart, take the new boots out of the box and realize they are not going to work. One boot small end opening is not ever going to go over the drive shaft.
I ordered the right part, according to their product codes, but this is not going to work. Its a rein automotive pc. Wish I had just ordered a new re manufactured assembly...not the first time this "rare/unique" 5 speed manual transmission has caused me grief.....arrrggghhhh, looks like its the bus to work again this week....
