dash and climite lights just shut off
I was just driving last night and BAM no lights on dash or CC o.O the direction lights work, and the 2 little squares for exp: tracs, low wiper fluid, I have those lights on.. but the lights to tach, speedo and such do not work.. fuses under hood are still good.
It sounds like the little dimmer switch might have failed. The lights out you mention are controlled through the dimmer while the ones you say are working are not.
Have you tried moving the switch around a bit to see if the lights come one? They can have dead spots and work in one position and not another.

I am having this exact same problem. I have tried moving the dimmer switch and I've checked the fuse and it's good. They come on for a while and then go back off and then go on and off asi I drive. Bumps or turning the steering wheel does not make it happen. I tried jiggling the ignition switch and nothing. Sounds like a short somewhere, but where?
How do you get the dimmer switch out?
I googled it and found this on removing the switch:
