Default Defogging and Blower Motor

Hi All,

I have a couple of strange things happening at the moment.

First, my windows can be completely clear when I get in the car, I put the heating on and within seconds, every window resembles a London fog!! This has just started happening. Any ideas?

Next, the blower. For a few weeks now, I've noticed that on occasion its been erratic in changing from hot to cold, and has to be switched off in order to reset the air coming out of a vent, in addition, the temp at 84' is hot, turn it down a fraction and it becomes distinctly cool, no happy medium. Today however, it got worse, twice the blower stopped and no pressing of buttons and twiddling of ***** could make any difference, what did work, was switching the ignition off and the on again, that seemed to restart it.

Any ideas on the above would be greatly appreciated.

And, a HAPPY NEW YEAR to one and all.

For the blower stopping most likely the blower motor and resistor are bad.

The fogging pay attention and see if you smell coolant.

Hi Tech,

Many thanks for that and I hope 2006 is a great year for you.

The motor hasn't stopped again and I will keep an eye, well nose, out for any coolant smell on fogging, I didn't notice but then again, my senses are being shut down by the onset of winter

My ISSUE now is this, I'm getting bizarre temp output from the vents, good strong motor blow, but will go from hot to cold with no logical sequence, and also volcanic at 84 degree setting, but freezing at 82!! Is this the actual control unit on the dashboard?

Thanks again.

Do you know if you have ECC or MCC?

ECC is fully electronic Has AUT for the first fan speed setting.

MCC is full manual controls cables move the doors.

If you have ECC the blend door motor is most likely going bad.

HI,

Tech, I think I have ECC, the 'Auto' being the first setting.

Could I ask what is involved in replacing the blender, is it something easily accessible, and could I use a salvage part if costly.

Not in a hurry to do this, well so-so, I just had eye surgery and have the rest of the week in the warm, but when work beckons, I'd like to be able to get warmth in a controllable way

Thanks again,

You can try it with a salvage part. Sometimes you will have to take it to the Dealer in the end and have them Calibrate the motors. That might be a Temp fix for now to have that done.

Tech, Volvos are new to me but in other cars the blend door motors usually zero or bottom out when you turn them on and re-calibrate themselves each time. They are basically just a stepper motor like an idle air control motor. I'm getting ready to replace at least two of mine.
Have you or have you come across members who replaced their blend motors and they had to have the dealer calibrate them?
