Default Do I need an exhaust header?

Hello folks,
My son has a 97 850 wagon (non-turbo). It looks like the catalytic converter rusted through where its outlet pipe connects so we're probably in for a new exhaust front to back. That's a little painful but we'll get through it.

What concerns me is that the cat is hanging from the front. On the header, before the mounting flange there is a wrapped part (looks like a small baseball) that flexes when i lift the converter. I don't know if this is normal or not. Should I be looking for a new header as well as the rest of the exhaust? I tried to look it up on VADIS but am getting no info there.

Your help is much appreciated.

That is the flex joint. Prevents engine movement from creating exhaust rattles. Don't worry about it.

Whew! Thanks! I was afraid it would tear apart when I loosen the flange bolts.
