Default door locks - replacement - programming?

Hi guys, fairly new here but have been wrenching on european cars for quite awhile.

Picked up a 94 850 turbo last week and have been fixing things here and there since.

Car came with no drivers door handle, and the pull lever inside the hole for the handle was missing. So I replaced the whole lock mechanism and door handle.

Problem is, I didn't have a lock cylinder to swap in, so the handle has a lock from the parts car it came off.

When I lock the car with the remote, the drivers door doesn't lock, but the alarm will sound if it is opened.

When I get in, start, and begin driving, all the doors lock except for the drivers door.

The drivers door will lock if I push the button down manually.

Any suggestions?

Car in question. Got it for silly cheap.

Did you try with the key on the door? They should open with the key, unless the actuator is bad. I am no expert but had recent lock problems, it was the actuator.
Fob programming has nothing to do with the actuator, its the central locking system that responds to the FOB ( beeper)

The door lock doesn't match the rest of the locks, it was from a parts car.

What if you hit the button inside the door, do they all lock/ unlock?

I dont think a lock cyclinder will make any difference, other than getting locked out if the fob fails.

Check the actuator, its plugs, etc.was ot working before you did the lock?

Ah, I did not check. That makes sense though. I will email the guy I got the lock mechanism from and see if he knows if it worked prior to removal.

The door does not lock when the lock button is pressed on the inside, the other doors do though.

Ok
Is the actuator working, I mean, do you hear it trying to unlock or lock, is there any power at the plug?
You pull the button at door and it opens as stated in you first post, does it opens by the electric button on the main switch cluster on the drivers door??.
If everything else does, all 4 doors( including trunk) open with fob, door switch, but the drivers, check the actuator and replace. The problem has to be in that specific area.

The actuator on my wifes car, passenger side rear, locks all the time, but sometimes it unlocks sometimes does not, that is for sure the actuator funking around..

Another question, not the intention to deviate the thread, but it's quite related:
I am interested in configuring my '97 N/A wagon to lock when you begin to drive, as stated by Optimusglen , (I didn't know you could do this on these 850's!!!). I miss this option that I have on the other cars in my family.

thanks

I really dont know about those auto locks, I know my Chevy does it, but the only thing Ive seen on my volvos (99 and earlier) is that it unlocks if one of the doors is ajar, had a problem with that and a micro switch in one of the actuators.

Could it be that the actual lock is not hooked to the actuator?
Did you check if there was any noise coming from the panel?
Have you take the panel off?

I had the panel off when I was replacing the whole lock mechanism (actuator looked similar, but different than the picture above) Everything was plugged in when I put it all back together. I'm going to pick up another actuator from the salvage yard and swap it out later this week.

bond007: My car does that, I thought it was factory. When I put it in drive all the doors lock. Then when I shut the car off they all open.

That's what I want!!!

I'm going to call the local dealer and see if it's a programming issue. I had a Chrysler Sebring convertible that all you had to do is turn the ignition switch on-off on a specific number of times and the feature was enabled, while I also had a Land Rover Discovery that had to be taken to the dealer in order to activate that function...

Update, I pulled a couple door lock modules from the salvage yard and took apart my door again yesterday. Still didn't work so I started snooping, and finally discovered the problem.

Pictured here is the door lock module plug that was originally on my car.

For both of the other lock modules I tried to replace it with, that brown and yellow wire was in pin 8 instead of pin 10.

These plugs are nice and easy to swap things around in, pry the 3 little clips and the side opens up. Needle nose pliers to pull the connection out and press in new spot.

Now everything works as it should.

I've been pulling on those wires so hard and they still won't come out, does it normally require a lot of force or am i doing something wrong here?
