Default ECC blinking lights?

Odd, everything seems to be working fine, cold air, warm heat. The only thing thats not working is the the controll **** for the air direction such as floor or mix. The air or heat only blows out of the main front dash vents which would be what you would normally select in Fla. anyway. I do have a code reader but not sure how to pull them. No CEL. Are the flashing lights more trouble than I think? 96 850 GLT N/A

There is no way to know without reading the codes. Being a '96 you don't have the under hood diagnostic panel so it's something you'd need someone with a scanner to do. Something in the system has failed but if you can live with the lights blinking when you first start it up and you don't freeze or boil then you can't do any more damage and might want to leave it alone. It could be as simple as one of the many temperature sensors failing or even one of the little fan motors over the assist handles above the front doors getting too much dust and binding up.

Thanks for the reply. I do have a scanner for CEL. I don't know if I can use it or not. Maybe a different scanner? Can the sensors you pointed out be cleaned? I cannot drive with the CEL on and it isn't it just bugs me. That's why I'd like to fix the blinking ECC lights. Just really bothers me. I'll do everything I can first before taking it in to my mechanic. I wonder if Advanced Auto can scan it? Thanks.

The sensor over the door in that grab handle has a small fan that can be cleaned with compressed air in place. Don't have to take it apart. And that's just two of a number of different sensors and motors that can be causing the code.

As for the blinking lights I don't know of any auto parts stores that uses an expensive scanner like the ones necessary to do more than just read the engine management codes (check engine light) and some will do limited makes of ABS. Don't know any that do the SRS, Suspension, Climate Control ..... functions.
