Hi! My 1996 850 (2.4 5cyl. 20v 5 speen manual NON-turbo) quit working, and we've traced it back to either the coil, or the ECU. and i was wondering if i could swap the ECU with a different ECU that i already have as a spare (from a '97 850 - presumed to be a 2.4 5 cyl 20v AUTOMATIC non-turbo) My question is; does the replacement ECU need to be flashed or programmed to my current car to work? or is it just interchangable? I dont want to put it in and damage the car through the anti-theft or by some other means in the electriacl system. and feedback would help. thanks a bunch!

You'll get a CEL and flashing arrow for the missing TCU since you have a manual.

I guess if you want to spend the money and if it's going to be permanent. Or just find a used one. Are you even 100% it's the computer?
