Default Engine Missfire

I've been having some hesitation when accelerating usually either when I floor it or when it revs over 3k rpm(higher torque). if I lightly accelerate I can feel the turbo and the acceleration but as soon as I step on it or reach about 3k rpms it bogs down and doesn't accelerate. It was somewhat intermittent, but getting to be more consistent. The check engine lite is on so I pulled my OBD2 codes and had two: p1310 (Miss fire on one or more cylinders) and miss fire on cylinder 5 code. I thought it was odd that only #5 was missing.

I was thinking it could be either the fuel filter or fuel pump. I had a bmw act like this when the fuel pump went, wasn't sure if it was the same.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Daniel

I recently changed the fluids, the spark plugs (autolite iridium cores), the distributor cap, and button. I checked under the distributor to make sure there wasn't any oil getting in and I reseated the wires to make sure they have a good connection, checked the wire connections going to the coil and everything seems fine there...

Thanks Tech,

The plugs were gaped incorrectly.
advance auto and auto zone sold me "pre gaped" plugs gaped at twice the required size. FCP plugs worked great!

Default Tech - Can you help?

Ok guys here's a goood one. I have a 1994 850 Turbo wagon with 50,000 miles on it. Well, the kid drove it to vegas a few weeks ago and a heater hose let go and it blew the engine. So had the engine rebuilt and away we go...
Now I have a miss-fire under load (no blinking Check Engine light).
When the car is cold, the misfire is only under full throttle full load top-end power (3500+). As the engine gets warmer, it misses/surges under heavy load, the progressively lighter loads from there (and you can smell the cat getting really hot - lean? IDK).
I have no idea what spark plugs are in there (but they were part of the tune-up kid from IPD) and I am pretty sure the vacuum hoses were replaced for everything.

Any suggestions as this is a nice car with low miles and now a rebuilt engine I would like to keep for a while.

Also, the sunroof keeps blowing the fuse after working for a day or so.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Demian

See if there are any codes – codes can be present without setting off the CEL. Since the rebuild, has this problem always existed or did it just start showing up? Since you say it blew up a few weeks ago, I’d guess it’s been that way since the rebuild. Talk to the rebuilder, explain the situation and have them check their work.

In the mean time, I’d pull the plugs and check their gap. Make sure the distributor & wires are clean and seated properly.

Was the cat replaced when the engine was rebuilt? I’m not sure you can ‘smell’ a cat – unless some of the radiator fluid got on/in it when the hose blew.

What parts came with the tune-up kit – and were they all installed? Before or after the rebuild?

You may want to start your own thread for this – and a second one for the sunroof fuse.

I haven't checked the codes yet. Good idea.

The cat was not replaced.

I am going to check the plug gaps - I have had first hand experience with that on my friends S80 T6. Wrong tye of plugs, the car wouldn't run for crap.

Tune up was plugs, cap rotor wires, installed after rebuild.

I started a new thread for each of the issues.
